Matthew Pearson
Director of Scouting
From Glasgow, Scotland, Matt arrived in the United States in 2011 after spells in the UK, Malta and Greece. He held various roles in Chicago Fire FC helping him develop a good understanding of the youth soccer landscape in the United States. While helping with the PDL side, he also undertook a number of scouting assignments in late 2015, working alongside Trevor James to build a database of players for the club heading into the MLS Draft 2016. Following the MLS Draft that year, he was appointed Director of Scouting for the club. The following year, the club had its best season in recent years, finishing 3rd overall in the MLS Supporters Shield Standings.
Matt was reassigned to the Academy with a view to recruiting from the local market. Setting out a plan to establish the club as a market leader in player recruitment, he was able to bring in a number of players from a diverse socio-economic and cultural background, including several players who have went on to represent the club both domestically and at international level. Matt was also involved on the field in a coaching capacity during the build up to the inaugural MLS Next Cup where the U19 squad won the national title.
More recently, Matt also co-founded Sueño FC, a UPSL side that aims to give young players the opportunity to play and remove the financial barriers for players to achieve their dreams.
